List Building Tips

Succeeding with a business online requires careful thought, planning and lots of marketing. One important element to business success is list building.

When one thinks of list building, they might confuse it with the traditional method of writing down the names of your friends, family and acquaintances and promoting your business to them. List building is far different than this method and much more effective.

Building a list involves gathering the names and email addresses of different people who have agreed to receive email messages from you about your business and products. If done correctly, one can build a list of thousands of people who they can correspond with and make reoccurring sales from. If done incorrectly, however, there can be very negative effects resulting in people unsubscribing from your list.

The main reason why people unsubscribe from your list is because you have broken their trust. An important rule to follow is to be extremely clear to your readers exactly what they will receive after providing their information. Also, if you say you will give your readers an incentive for subscribing to your list, make sure you give them it. Try to be exciting and enthusiastic with your correspondence, but do not over hype it and always be honest.

There are many ways to build your list.

Forum marketing is as simple as registering for a free account, setting up your signature line with your business lead capture page and going in and participating in the forum conversations.

Blogging is as easy as setting up a free blog with Blogger or Wordpress and making posts that are relevant to your business. Optimize your blogs with keywords and tags so search engines will find it. Reviews work well on blogs and often turn readers into customers.

Write 250 to 500 word articles related to your business and add a link to your capture page in the resource box. Submit your articles to high page rank article directories and you will be well on your way to building that list.

Other ways to build your list include social networking, social media sites, blog commenting, ezine marketing, an eshot and many others.
