The difference between marketing and sales
The question of the difference between marketing and sales has come up time and again. Those who are in business should know that without marketing they will not have any prospects or leads for their products, and without a good sales strategy and technique, they may not have the desired sales or profit.
Marketing actually means doing everything to reach out and persuade your prospects, whereas sales mean to sell your products and close it after getting a signed contract or agreement. Both are the basic requirements for the success of a business. This means, you cannot run a business without marketing and sales. Thus, a businessman should strategically combine both for growing the business.
By marketing efforts, a businessman first of all reaches out to his prospects and persuades them about the benefits of his products. He uses a message that prepares his prospects for sales. Marketing efforts consist of having effective public relations, advertising, viral marketing, direct mail marketing and brand marketing.
For concluding sales, the first requirement is interpersonal interaction. This can be done by meeting the prospects, networking and cold calls. Sales procedure connects you with a prospect or customer at a personal level.
If effective marketing is done, the prospect begins to move from the cold lead to a warm lead, which means you may be able to make a sale to the prospect if he becomes convinced or “warm”. This makes it easier for the sales representative to finalize the deal.
For effective marketing and sales, multiple contacts should be approached so that you can move from one level to another. Therefore, the importance of developing a process that consists of both sales and marketing is essential because this enables you to reach out to your prospects at three levels, named as cold, warm and hot. Success will depend on how you have balanced sales and marketing procedures.
