I’d like to start by thanking the webmaster for giving me a guest article here. I am based in london and I am a full time seo link builder. I have been providing link building services for a long time from within what has become a growing team of people, and as such have seen how the market has changed over time.
As we link build, what we are finding more and more is that spend the effort and resources to get one really good link is producing more resultsthan the equivalent of get 5 or 50 cheaper/easier to buy/swap/trade links. We have always known this, which is why we have always employed writers and pushed out payed for articles into the world wide web. As time has gone on we have gotten better and better at it, and we have seen our results in the rankings. We have always as part of our game plan had a nice spread of links, from a lower volume of the really good ones (that are much harder to get) through to a higher volume of the easier to find “cheaper” links The winds of change have been blowing however (as they always do) and we are finding more and more that the lower level links are doing less, but that the better ones are doing more, making it arguably more effective to produce perhaps less links but built in a certain way.
There is always an ongoing line of investigation that is going on in our offices, but I think this is the way that things are going to move in the future of SEO. I am going to use an example of a client of mine whom I built some banner stands links for a while ago. He is my only client that actually takes an interest in how it works (rather than not caring as long as the results come in). I wanted to give him the heads up, and so I here provide you with three examples of links that we have built for him in the past that have matured nicely over time so that they will be taken into account in the longer term.
Article on SEO Authority Pages:
http://www.doccroc.co.uk/?p=5
The individual page of this artiles URL is not only comftably in the cache, but now holds a page rank of 3. There are four anchored texted links pointing at his site, 3 of which are deep linking to a specifc page. There are very few other links pointing out of this page, and those that are there all point internally. This is good stuff.
Article on “Bender and Banners”
http://www.fanhuggers.com/2008/06/10/bender-uk-the-next-best-thing-and-roller-banners/
The Specific artilce page has it’s own Page Rank of 3. Your outgoing link is for “roller banners” and this page has the same keywords in the actual meta data (i.e. the title tag) adding specific relevance to the link.
As you can see these links took a great deal of effort to produce. It involved finding a trusted blog, then having a copy writer produce an article that was both worth publishing and relevent to the blog site, then having the webmaster of the blog agree to publish the article. The effort (and thus the cost) of doing this is much higher than simply buying an anchor texted link on the base of the page. Yet look at how well the link is still holding up.
I think that this is certainly going to be the future of link building, and here in the london offices this is the way that we are going. The links may take ten times the effort to produce, but once they are there they stay there. Not only that, but as you can see they grow in value over time.

Finally, here’s a warm shout out to my friends at Enigin.
