How do google make their money?
Google help the majority of people use the internet. They help us navigate to relevant pages by constantly indexing and cataloguing everything that is posted on the web. They do all of this, and they do not charge us as a surfer any money. So, how do they make a profit? Well they have many schemes running, but a mjor source of income is PPC or pay per click advertising.
When you search for something, at the top and sides you will see results that are considered “sponsored results”. Everytime you click on one of these, they pay Google for the privilege of you going to their site. The company is literally paying for clicks. What you do when you get there is up to you, but Google charges the website for getting you there. This can become very expensive for the people advertising. So how do you make money when running a pay per click campaign? Here are my top three tips!
Choose your search terms wisely!
The best way to lose money is to pay for search terms that aren’t about whatever you are selling. For example, if you have houses for sale in Berkshire, paying to appear for the terms “houses” will be both expensive, and many of the people who click on it won’t be in Berkshire so will move away from your website very quickly. On the other hand if you pay for the term “Berkshire houses” the people who are searching for this are looking for houses in Berkshire, which is what you are selling.
Clear, honest wording
If you word you advert saying what you are actually selling, then people will only click on it if they want to buy what you are selling. For example, if you are paying for corporate events London and like these guys you do photographic treasure hunts, use the words photographic treasure hunts in our advert, that way people who already know they are looking for paintballing will not click on you.
Don’t necessarily bid for first place
If you do the above two things, you don’t have to be in first place. Often the price jump from being in third place to first place can be double the cost. If your wording is clear for what you sell, you will seen in the top three, and if they are interested they will click on you.
